According to the cognitive dissonance (CD) theory, when our attitudes and beliefs contradict our behavior, we face discomfort and uneasiness. This in turn, leads us to alter either our beliefs or behaviors in order to restore balance and resolve the discomfort we experience when our attitudes and behavior is not in alignment.
