The excerpt explains that slaves were performing similar jobs, receiving similar punishments and enduring similar suffering regardless of the colony they arrived to. Most sugar plantations followed the same system to produce sugar, and it was equally brutal everywhere. Work had to be done constantly and quickly, and slaves were punished often.
