How much warning time did residents of Sumatra have before the 2004 tsunami hit land?
Katarina [22]
Sad to say, the warning time that the residents of Sumatra had before the 2004 tsunami hit land was close from little to none. A rough estimation would around 15 - 30 minutes. They say that the primary cause would be that there wasn't any warning systems over the Indian Ocean at that time. Another thing, which is what most people who knew about it would point out as the real problem, is that there was no issuance of a warning in the first place. The quake was detected an hour or so before the tsunami occurred in the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre located in Ewo, Hawaii. At that moment, the information was relayed to Australia and to the rest of the world. The question wasn't why the Centre didn't issue a warning, but why the whole world network of information didn't issue one. They say that other sophisticated data were available at that time and almost immediately since the tsunami was active.

As with other developed nations, the Canadian economy is dominated by the service industry, which employs about three quarters of Canadians.[17] Canada is unusual among developed countries in the importance of the primary sector, with the logging and oil industries being two of Canada's most important. Canada also has a sizable manufacturing sector, based in Central Canada, with the automobile industryand aircraft industry being especially important. 3. Describe how convection currents form. Use evidence from your “Earth’s Internal Heat” notes to support your answer. Be sure t
Vaselesa [24]

The convection currents are formed due to heating of molecules.

When the liquid molecules are heated, the liquid becomes larger in size and lighter in weight. The heated molecules take up more space and rise to the top, while the cooler molecules comes to the bottom and takes the place. This cycle is known as the convection current.

Convection currents are the result of differential heating. Lighter which is less dense and warm material goes upward while on the other hand, heavier which is more dense and cool material sinks. This movement creates circulation patterns known as convection currents in the atmosphere.
