Georgia state operates three branches of government just like the federal government. The Georgia state senate and the Georgia house of representative form the legislative branch of the Georgia state government. The state has 56 senate districts and each district elects one senator. To be a Georgia's senator, a candidate must be at least 25 years old, resident for at least a year in the district he or she wants to represent, resident in Georgia for at least two years and he or she must be a US citizen.
