<h3>Further explanation</h3>

<u>Given:</u>

Ms. Phillips ordered 56 pizzas for a school fundraiser.

Of the pizzas ordered:

  • \frac{2}{7} of them were pepperoni,
  • 19 were cheese, and
  • the rest were veggie pizzas.

<u>Question:</u>

What fraction of the pizzas was veggie?

<u>The Process:</u>

Let us create a suitable diagram based on the information above.

\boxed{56 \div 7 = 8} \rightarrow \boxed{8}\boxed{8}\boxed{8}\boxed{8}\boxed{8}\boxed{8}\boxed{8} = 56 \ pizzas

Then, \boxed{1 \ unit = 8 \ pizzas}

Of the pizzas ordered:

  • \frac{2}{7} of them were pepperoni, or 2 of 7 units, hence \boxed{2 \times 8 \ pizzas = 16 \ pizzas}
  • 19 were cheese, and
  • the rest were veggie pizzas.

Let us calculate the rest.

\boxed{ \ 56 - 16 - 19 = 21 \ veggie \ pizzas  \ }

And now, we determine the fraction of the pizzas was veggie.

\boxed{ \ \frac{21 \ veggie \ pizzas}{56 \ pizzas} \ }

The numerator and denominator are equally divided by 7.

\boxed{\boxed{ \ = \frac{3}{8} \ }}

Thus, \frac{3}{8} of the pizzas was veggie.

\frac{2}{7} • 56 = 16

so 16 pizzas are pepperoni

19 pizzas are cheese

And the rest is Veggie

So now add 16 and 19 which is 35

Now subtract that from 50 which is 15

So 15 pizzas were Veggie pizzas
