You would use syntheitc division to find this out. If, after we do the division, we have a remainder of 0, then the binomial is a factor. If there is a remainder that is a real number (any number that's not a 0), then the binomial is not a factor. It's that simple. We will start at the top. Our first binomial is x - 7 = 0. That means that x = 7. We will put 7 outside the "box" and the coefficients of the terms inside the box, like this: 7 (1 19 84). Bring down the 1. Multiply that 1 by the 7 to get 7. Put that 7 up under the 19 and add to get 26. Multiply that 26 by the 7 to get 182. Put that 182 up under the 84 and add to get 266. Definitely NOT a 0, so x - is not a factor. Let's move to the next one. x + 84 = 0, so x = -84. Put -84 outside the box and the coefficients of the terms inside like this: -84 (1 19 84). Bring down the 1 and multiply it by -84 to get -84. Put that -84 up under the 19 and add to get -65. Multiply that -65 by the -84 to get 5460. Again, not a 0. Moving on...x + 7 = 0 so x = -7. Set up the same way. Bring down the 1 and multiply by the -7 to get -7. Put that -7 up under the 19 and add to get 12. Multiply 12 by the -7 to get -84. Put the -84 up under the 84 and add to get 0. That means that x + 7 is a factor of the polynomial. Just so you know, one of the rules of synthetic division is that you are only allowed to use binomials as your possible roots. x^2+12 is itself a polynomial so we can't use sythetic division to do this. Also, because both the polynomials are second degree polynomials, they won't divide evenly anyway. So your only factor is x + 7. There you go!

Sholpan [36]

Answer:

12 times 5=60 not 70

Step-by-step explanation:

12(5+2y)=4y-(5-9y

60+24y=4y-5-9y

60+24y=-5y-5

29y+60=-5

29y=-65

y=-65/29 or y= about -2.38

Find the exact length of the curve. y2 = 4(x + 1)3, 0 ≤ x ≤ 1, y > 0
mylen [45]
We can find this using the formula: L= ∫√1+ (y')² dx

First we want to solve for y by taking the 1/2 power of both sides:

y=(4(x+1)³)^1/2
y=2(x+1)^3/2

Now, we can take the derivative using the chain rule:

y'=3(x+1)^1/2

We can then square this, so it can be plugged directly into the formula:

(y')²=(3√x+1)²
(y')²=9(x+1)
(y')²=9x+9

We can then plug this into the formula:

L= ∫√1+9x+9 dx *I can't type in the bounds directly on the integral, but the upper bound is 1 and the lower bound is 0
L= ∫(9x+10)^1/2 dx *use u-substitution to solve
L= ∫u^1/2 (du/9)
L= 1/9 ∫u^1/2 du
L= 1/9[(2/3)u^3/2]
L= 2/27 [(9x+10)^3/2] *upper bound is 1 and lower bound is 0
L= 2/27 [19^3/2-10^3/2]
L= 2/27 [√6859 - √1000]
L=3.792318765

The length of the curve is 2/27 [√6859 - √1000] or 3.792318765 units.

jessica weighs x+34 pounds and Ronda weighs 12 pounds less. If Jessica gains 5 pounds and Ronda loses 2 pounds, what is the sum
Vladimir [108]

Answer:

2x+59.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let J represent Jessica's weight and R represent Ronda's weight.

Jessica weighs x+34 pounds. Thus:

J=x+34

Ronda weighs 12 pounds less than Jessica. In other words:

R=J-12=(x+34)-12\\R=x+22

The sum of their weights, therefore, is:

J+R\\=(x+34)+(x+22)=2x+56

Now, if Jessica gains 5 pounds and Ronda loses 2 pounds, the net gain of the total weight would be 3 pounds. Thus, we only need to add 3 to the original total to find the sum of their new weights:

2x+56+3=2x+59

The sum of the new [weights] is represented by 2x+59.
