Q + n = 40....q = 40 - n
0.25q + 0.05n = 5

0.25(40 - n) + 0.05n = 5
10 - 0.25n + 0.05n = 5
-0.25n + 0.05n = 5 - 10
 - 0.20n = -5
n = -5 / -0.20
n = 25 <=== 25 nickels

q + n = 40
q + 25 = 40
q = 40 - 25
q = 15 <== 15 quarters

N=number of nickles
q=number of quarters

40 coins total so
n+q=40

total value is 500 cents
5n+25q=500
divide both sides by 5
n+5q=100

so we gots
n+q=40
n+5q=100

elimination
multily first equation by -1 and add to 2nd equation

-n-q=-40
<u>n+5q=100 +
</u>0n+4q=60

4q=60
divide both sides by 4
q=15

sub back
n+q=40
n+15=40
minus 15 both sides
n=25

25 nickles and 15 quarters

Answer:

(a) Equations for both

y = 500 + 12x --- lifeguard

y = 15x --- camp counselor

(b) Total pay for 5 days

Lifeguard pays $800

Camp counselor pays $375

(c) Which pays more

Lifeguard job pays more

Step-by-step explanation:

Let

x \to hours

y \to total\ pay

Given

Lifeguard job

Signing\ bonus = \$500

Rate = \$12/hr

Camp counselor job

Signing\ bonus =\$0

Rate = \$15/hr

Solving (a): The equation for both

The total pay for each job is calculated as:

Total Pay = Signing Bonus + Rate * Hours

So, we have:

Lifeguard

y = 500 + 12*x

y = 500 + 12x

Camp counselor

y = 0 + 15 * x

y = 15x

Solving (b): Total pay for 5 days

First, we calculate the total hours worked in 5 days

x = 5hrs/day * 5days

x = 25hrs

So, the pay for each is:

y = 500 + 12x

y =500 + 12*25

y =800 --- Lifeguard

y = 15x

y = 15 * 25

y = 375 --- camp counselor

Solving (c): Which job pays more

By comparing the solution in (b)

800 > 375

<em>Hence, lifeguard job pays more</em>

If I had 12 marbles and then gave two away and now I have ten out of twelve marbles left what fraction of the marbles did I give
Ostrovityanka [42]
Okay so you have 10/12 marbles (ten out of twelve). Both 10 and 12 can be divided by 2, right? So divide both of those by 2 and you get 5/6. That’s your answer. Hope this helps!

How do I solve this problem
Harman [31]
X = # of posters, y = total cost
y = 2x + 250
y = 1000

1000 = 2x + 250
1000 - 250 = 2x
750 = 2x
750/2 = x
375 = x....so 375 posters can be printed
==========================
y = total cost, x = # of miles

y = 3x + 3
y = 117

117 = 3x + 3
117 - 3 = 3x
114 = 3x
114/3 = x
38 = x.....so the car was towed 38 miles
