You work in a busy obstetrics practice. Today a patient who is 20 weeks along in her pregnancy called to schedule a follow-up ap

pointment with the doctor because she was hospitalized two days ago for a vaso-occlusive crisis associated with her sickle cell. You set an appointment for the patient to see the doctor 2 weeks from today.
When the office manager reviewed the patient schedule for the upcoming 2 weeks she noticed the appointment reason you listed for this patient. She immediately contacted the office nurse and had her reschedule the patient’s appointment for the following day. The office manager explains to you that the patient is considered high risk due to the sickle cell and has recently experienced a crisis during her pregnancy so she needs to be seen as soon as possible.
