Well you could say that the Colombian exchange helped shape the modern world by changing population as the bringing of diseases to the new world killed most of the native population, shaping what population numbers look today. You could also bring up the Irish potato famine that was caused by the Colombian exchange as it caused Ireland to be what it is today. Hope this helps!
