A remote control airplane descends at a rate of 3 feet per second. after 6 seconds the plane is 89 feet above the ground. which

equation models this situation and what is the height of the plane after 12 seconds?
y-89= -3(x-6) ; 71 feet.

I just don't understand how they got that equation.

Ur looking at point slope form of an equation : y - y1 = m(x - x1)
ur slope is -3/1 or just -3, because the plane descends...it goes down. ur points are (6,89)...so ur x axis is seconds and ur y axis is feet.

6 = y1 and 89 = y2....ur slope(m) = -3.
y - y1 = m(x - x1)......after 12 seconds....seconds = x
y - 89 = -3(12 - 6)
y - 89 = -3(6)
y - 89 = -18
y = -18 + 89
y = 71

so after 12 seconds (x), ur plane is at 71 ft (y)

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

In this question descending height of an airplane, when plotted on a graph shows a straight line.

So the linear graph will represent y - y ' = m(x - x')

where y represents the height and x represents the time.

Remote control airplane descends at a rate of 3 feet per second.

This represents rate of decrease in the height = m (slope of the line) = -3 (minus notation is because height is decreasing)

Now it is given that airplane is at 89 feet above the ground after 6 seconds.

That means line passes through a point (6, 89).

By putting these values in the equation

y - 89 = -3(x - 6)

We have to find the height of the airplane after x = 12 seconds.

y - 89 = -3(12 - 6)

y - 89 = -18

y = 89 - 18

y = 71 feet.

In comparison to 1/3 where would 2/6 be located an on a number line
marta [7]

Answer:

If you simplify 2/6, you get 1/3 by dividing the numerator and denominator by 2.

Therefore, 1/3 and 2/6 would be the same point on the number line.

The approximate equation in slope intercept form is y = 3x + 2.

Solution:

Let us take (0, 2) and (1, 5) on the graph.

x_1=0, y_1=2, x_2=1, y_2=5

Equation of the line in slope-intercept form:

y = mx + b

where m is the slope of the line and b is the y-intercept of the line.

Slope of the line:

$m=\frac{y_{2}-y_{1}}{x_{2}-x_{1}}

$m=\frac{5-2}{1-0}

$m=\frac{3}{1}

m = 3

y-intercept of the line is the value of y when x = 0.

Here the value of y is 2 when x = 0. That is (0, 2) is the point of y-intercept.

Therefore b = 2.

y = 3x + 2

Hence the approximate equation in slope intercept form is y = 3x + 2.

A company finds it can produce 15 heaters for $ 4050, while producing 25 heaters costs $ 6550. Express the cost, y, as a l
amid [387]

Answer:

y=250x+300

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x be the number of heaters and y be the total cost.

We need to find the linear function for y in terms of x.

It is given that company can produce 15 heaters for $4050 and 25 heaters costs $ 6550.

It means the line passes through the points (15,4050) and (25,6550).

If a line passes through two points (x_1,y_1) and (x_2,y_2), then the equation of line is

y-y_1=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}(x-x_1)

The equation of line is

y-4050=\frac{6550-4050}{25-15}(x-15)

y-4050=\frac{2500}{10}(x-15)

y-4050=250(x-15)

y-4050=250x-3750

Add 4050 on both sides.

y-4050+4050=250x-3750+4050

y=250x+300

Therefore, the required linear function is y=250x+300.

Find an equation of the line through (3,6) and parallel to y = 4x - 7.
FromTheMoon [43]

Answer:

y=4x-6

Step-by-step explanation:

Okay, to do this we must understand what parallel means.

parallel means that that one line will NEVER touch the other. In order for this to happen they must be increasing (or decreasing) by the SAME rate. I.e the slope of your line must be the same as the lin in question thus our equation looks like,

y=4x+c.

Now lets find c.

To do this, plug the point (3,6) into the equation

6=4(3)+C

6=12+C

-6=C

Thus now that we know C, our equaiton is

y=4x-6
