<span><span> {x,y} = {20,13/10}</span>  </span>System of Linear Equations entered :<span><span>  [1] x + 150y = 215 </span><span>  [2] x + 120y = 176 </span></span>Graphic Representation of the Equations :<span> 150y + x = 215 120y + x = 176 </span>Solve by Substitution :

// Solve equation [2] for the variable  x

<span> [2] x = -120y + 176 </span>

// Plug this in for variable  x  in equation [1]

<span><span>  [1] (-120y+176) + 150y = 215 </span><span>  [1] 30y = 39 </span></span>

// Solve equation [1] for the variable  y

<span><span>  [1] 30y = 39</span>  <span>  [1] y = 13/10</span> </span>

By now we know this much :

<span><span>  x = -120y+176</span> <span>  y = 13/10</span></span>

<span>Use the  y  value to solve for  x
</span>

<span>   x = -120(13/10)+176 = 20 </span>Solution :<span><span> {x,y} = {20,13/10}</span> </span>

The domain for f(x) and g(x) is the set of all real numbers.
blsea [12.9K]

Hi, here is the solution...

f(x) = 2x^{2} + x - 3 and g(x) = x + 2

(f.g)(x) = f(x). g(x)

= (2x^{2} + x - 3) *(x + 2)

Now use the distributive property, we get

= (2x^{2} + x  - 3)x + 2(2x^{2}+x -3)

= 2x^{3}+x^{2} -3x + 4x^{2} + 2x - 6

Now combine the like terms.

= 2x^{3} +5x^{2}-1x -6                             [-3x +2x = -1x = -x]

(f.g)(x) =  2^{3}+5x^{2}-x -6

That's it. Thank you :)

Write the equation of a line that passes through the points (0, -2) and (4, -5). Answer MUST be in standard form: Ax + By = C.
shutvik [7]

The slope-intercept form:

y=mx+b

m - slope

b - y-intercept → (0, b).

We have the points (4, -5) and (0, -2) → y-intercept → b = -2.

The formula of a slope:

m=\dfrac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}

Substitute:

m=\dfrac{-2-(-5)}{0-4}=\dfrac{-2+5}{-4}=\dfrac{3}{-4}=-\dfrac{3}{4}

Therefore we have the equation of a line

y=-\dfrac{3}{4}x-2

Convert to the standard form: Ax+By=C

y=-\dfrac{3}{4}x-2\qquad\text{multiply both sides by 4}\\\\4y=-3x-8\qquad\text{add 3x to both sides}\\\\\boxed{3x+4y=-8}

A girl is 18 years old and her brother is a third of her age. When the girl is 36 what would be the age of the brother?
ale4655 [162]
First we need to calculate how many years her brother has when she is 18. As text says he is:
18/3 = 6 years old

Now when she gains another 18 years (36-18=18) he will also gain those 18 years

When she is 36 he will have 6+18=24 years old

Answer is 24.
