Answer: Option A Pollution free environment increasing lichen growth.

Explanation :

 • The peppered moth has two varieties dark and light.
 • The difference in colour of these two moths is due to industrial melanism which resulted in the evolution of these moths.
 • Earlier, in a pollution free environment the moths were majorly light coloured as they could easily camouflage against the bark of the tree covered with lichen.
 • However, with industrialization the gases like suplhur dioxide killed the lichens covering the tree and hence, the moths evolved to be of darker color to easily camouflage against the now lichen free dark bark.

Thus, in a pollution free environment the lichen growth will increase and thus, the dark moths will find it difficult to camouflage and hence, there population will decrease.

What happens to RNA polymerase II after it has completed transcription of a gene? a. It begins transcribing the next gene on the
Over [174]

The correct answer is: b. It is free to bind to another promoter and begin transcription

Transcription is the first step of gene expression in which DNA molecule is copied (transcribed) into RNA (mRNA) by RNA polymerase. The process of transcription is divided into three phases:

1. Initiation

• RNA polymerase with transcriptional factors bind to gene promoter

• RNA polymerase unwinds DNA double helix (transcription bubble is formed)

2. Elongation

• RNA polymerases adds nucleotides complementary to DNA

3. Termination

• RNA polymerase gets to stop codon (transcribes a sequence of DNA known as a terminator)

• Formed complementary RNA strand is released from DNA-RNA complex.

RNA polymerase is also released and can transcribe some other gene by binding to its promotor. RNA polymerase will transcribe just the genes whose products are needed at a particular moment.

Semipermeable cell membranes are made of phospholipids that form a bilayer. What major benefit does this arrangement of the memb
Andrej [43]

Answer:

The correct answer would be c. The cell has a greater level of structural support.

Phospholipds are the structural units of a cell membrane. They are consist of two components; hydrphobic lipids and hydrophylic polar heads.

They make a bilayer structure in which polar heads are in contact with water and lipid part are embedded within the layer.

 • Lipid bilayer gives the rigidity or shape to the cell.
 • It isolates the cell from the sorroundings.
 • It is semi-permiable in nature and thus prevents or control the movement of substances across the membrane.
 • Being liquid in nature, the cytoplasm would have dispersed in the surrounding in absence of cell membrane.

Hence, most appropriate choice would be c. The cell has a greater level of structural support.
