So,

"89 more than" = 89 +

"the quotient of an unknown number and 62" = 62 over x

"is 94" = 94

89 +  \frac{62}{x} = 94

Multiply both sides by x.
89x + 62 = 94x

Subtract 89x from both sides.
62 = 5x

Divide both sides by 5.
\frac{62}{5} = x

Simplify.
12 \frac{2}{5}\ or\ 12.4 = x

F(x)=(x+4)(x-2)(x+4)(x+4)<br><br> What is the multiple zero? Multiplicity is?
kari74 [83]
f(x)=(x+4)(x-2)(x+4)(x+4)\\f(x)=(x+4)^3(x-2)=0\\(x+4)^3=0~|~(x-2)=0\\(x+4)(x+4)(x+4)=0~|~x=2\\x=-4,2

The multiple zero is x = -4.

The multiplicity is 2 because there are two values of x.
