Jan. 1, 2013:
Initial investment = (100 shares)*($30/share) = $3,000.

End of 2013:
Dividend collected = ($2/share)*(100 shares) = $200

End of 2014:
Dividend collected = ($3/share)*(100 shares) = $300

End of 2015:
Dividend collected = ($4/share)*(100 shares) = $400

Returns::
 From sales of 100 shares = ($33/share)*(100 shares) = $3,300
 From dividends = 200 + 300 + 400 = $900
 Total returns = 3,300 + 900 = $4,200

Realized returns = Total returns - Initial inestment
                            = 4200 - 3000
                            = $1,200

Answer: $1,200

3. You have $100 to invest. The price of XYZ stock is $100. You sell short one share of XYZ and then invest all available funds
tigry1 [53]

Answer:

HPR = holding period Return is 20%

Explanation:

  • Given original Investment = $100
  • Short sale proceeds for 1 share = $100
  • Investment made of $100 + short sale proceeds of $100 at 5% YTM.
  • So Maturity Value = Investment x (1+YTM)^number of years
  • = 200 x (1 + 0.05)^1 = 210

  • Therefore, In order to cover Short sale of 1 share, we will have to buy 1 share at a closing value of $90
  • As such, holding period Return = (Investment proceeds from ZCB - Buying price of stock - Investment amount) / Investment Amount
  • = (210 - 90 - 100) / 100 = 0.2 or 20%

  • Hence, HPR = holding period Return is 20%

A store accidentally priced an item at $20 instead of $30 and honored the mispricing. where should the $10 difference
dimulka [17.4K]

Answer:

The difference is attributed to sales.

Explanation:

The difference of $10 will be attributed to sales because $20 is charged instead of $30 which means selling price has been changed. However, it cannot be considered as a loss because the cost price is not given. It might be the actual cost price for the item is $15 and the store is selling at $20 instead of $30. So, in this case, the store is making a profit of $5. Thus, the difference is considered as the sale difference.

Lisa's opportunity cost rate is 10 percent compounded annually. how much must she deposit in an account today if she wants to re
Aleks04 [339]

Answer:

The answer would be, $21,760

Explanation:

The formula to be used is  that of calculating the present value (PV) of the payment in the ordinary annuity (PMT). PMT are done annually, semi-annually, quarterly or monthly.

PV = PMT * ((1-(1/ (1+r) n))/r)

Where PV is the present value; PMT is the payment in an ordinary annuity; r is the opportunity cost rate; n is the number of years

in this case, PV= 3,200; r=10%, and n=12

To get PV, substitute the values given above and compute as shown below:

PV  = 3,200*((1-(1/(1+0.10)12))/0.10)

PV= $21,760

With an opportunity cost of 10% compounded annually, Lisa will have to deposit $21,760 today if she wants to be receiving $3,200 at the end of each year for the next 12 years.
