remember, for |a|>b, solve a>b or a<-b (or means that the solution has to satisfy at least 1 of those inequalities)


|-4x+24|-4>36

add 4 to both sides

|-4x+24|>40

apply rule

-4x+24>40 or -4x+24<-40

minus 24 from everybody

-4x>16 or -4x<-64

divide everybody by -4, also flip the sign of the inequality since you are dividing by a negative

x<-4 or x>16 is the area where permissible values of x are
