It was appealing because it  A) it said that all people are equal under gods eye, B) held no secrets on how to get into heaven like, many other religions of the time, and C) it provided a form of spiritual belonging that many people of the time were hoping for.

The only unambiguous choice is that Oedipus makes decisions not based on scientific or criminal research but on his religious beliefs and these command that the will of the gods be obeyed at all times.
