In the articles of confederation, there was only 1 branch, the executive branch, which they solely relied on because they felt we needed this because the British were lacking it. They designed the articles of confederation to have a weak central government so they wouldn't become oppressive which they had seen from the British. Another thing was that each state only had 1 vote. This wasnt really fair for the larger states, because they have more people to represent. In order to make decisions, they had to get all 13 of the states vote, so it was nearly impossible to amend. Finally, the states all had thier own money systems, and there wasnt a common currency which made it very difficult to trade and travel.
