I am not going to answer this in depth due to the fact that it probably wouldn't fit on the page. I know that the magma core inside the earth has lots of magnetic 'power', and that it matches up wit the poles and compasses. Also, it makes sense with the possibility that the continents shifted due to the tectonic plates shifting which is evident by the today evidence of California 'falling'. If you do not know of this, look it up, and it fits with the idea that the continents shifted. I can hit any one of these topics if you would like something more detailed.

Why do the north pacific and north atlantic gyres rotate clockwise?
Art [367]
The Earth's rotation deflects, or changes the direction of, these wind-driven currents. This deflection is a part of the Coriolis effect. The Coriolis effect shifts surface currents by angles of about 45 degrees. In the Northern Hemisphere, ocean currents are deflected to the right, in a clockwise motion.
