Rewrite the sentences to make them more interesting using different sentence forms (simple, compound, complex, compound-complex.
Alekssandra [29.7K]

Some examples of simple, compound, complex and compound-complex sentences using the examples given are the following:

People get so excited about football. I don't understand it. It is not nearly as interesting as baseball. Here we have three simple sentences.

People get so excited about football and I don't understand why; it is not nearly as interesting as baseball. Compound sentence formed by three independent clauses. The firs two are linked by the coordinator "and", and the third one is separated by a semicolon.

I don't understand why people get so excited about football. It is not nearly as interesting as baseball. Complex sentence formed by a dependent clause embedded in an independent clause, introduced by the adverb of reason "why". Afterwards, We have an independent clause.

I don't understand why people get so excited about football, for it is not nearly as interesting as baseball. Compound-complex sentence formed by two clauses, one independent containing a dependent introduced by the adverb of reason "why", and the other one linked by the coordinator "for".

1. When using direct quotations in your writing, which of the following should be placed outside the set of quotation marks?
DochEvi [55]
1. The correct answer is D. semicolon.
When you are quoting somebody's words directly, there are some punctuation marks that go within the quote itself, and some which go outside of it. Those which you would write within the quote are period, question mark, comma, exclamation mark, and others, and those you would write outside of it are semicolon, dash, slash, etc.

2. The sentence which is written in the passive voice is D. The effects of cyanide are well known.
A passive sentence is a type of a sentence where the object is the focus. It is something that a particular action is done on - in this case, facts about cyanide are known. All other options here are active, meaning that the subject is the focus of the sentence, unlike in sentence D.

11. The correct answer is <span>C. You're generating words that suggest possible sentences or paragraphs.
Webbing is a technique you use to generate some words that you might use in your essay to develop sentences and ideas. You write one word, and then branch it out to many others in order to help you develop your arguments. All other options here refer to brainstorming rather than webbing.

14. The correct answer is D. To own a word, write it over and over again.
It is important to write many different contexts and examples of where a particular word can be used in order to remember its meaning and usage. This is the appropriate connection between speaking (you will start using this word more and more in speech) and writing (the more you write it, the easier it will be to remember).

16. When writing, you can most effectively use a dash to B. get the reader's attention.
Dashes obviously cannot replace an exclamation point - that point is there for a reason, to show us that there is an exclamation taking place. An em dash, but not a regular dash can replace a semicolon, so C is also incorrect. Dashes don't really contribute to the formality of a sentence, so D is incorrect as well.

What does romeo mean in these lines when he says, "i beseech thee, youth,/ put not another sin upon my head/ by urging me to fur
Anna [14]
Romeo does not want to fight Paris. He has no desire to take up arms against Paris; however, if Paris chooses to fight him, he will fight back. Romeo is characterized as noncombative. He doesn't want to fight Paris. We have seen this in other parts of the play as well. He did not want to fight Tybalt when Tybalt came at him. This choice was not a surprise because Romeo had shown to be rather passive in conversations about the fighting between the Capulets and Montagues. He never seemed to condone the fighting in the streets and seemed to stay out of the skirmishes. Romeo also comes across as very confident in his abilities as a swordsman. His statement that the fight will put "another sin upon [his] head" indicates that he is confident he will kill Paris if they fight.
