This telegram stated if Mexico sided with Germany during World War I, and attacked the states, when Germany won the war they promised they would give Mexico territories. This was a huge threat, as Mexico bordered the United States, and it was the final straw into the United States entering World War I. On April 6, 1917, after the speech of Woodrow Wilson, the United States had officially declared war on Germany and entered World War I as one of the Allied powers.
