Which of the following best describes a conflict between what the daughters think and what they do?
NemiM [27]

Question:

Which of the following best describes a conflict between what the daughters think and what they do?

A. They think they're busy, but they don't actually do anything.

B. They think they're mourning their father, but they actually celebrate.

C. They think they're charming, but they're rude to guests.

D. They think they're being sympathetic to each other, but they really hurt each others' feelings.

Answer:

The correct answer is B)

Explanation:

On page 15, Constantia comes to Josephine with a strange smile on her face. It was a week since their fathers' death and Constantine had come to remind Josephine that it was a week already. Josephine's response was a smile. One would have thought that their response would be that of pain knowing that the Colonel was never coming back again. Reading in between the lines that followed thereafter, one could infer that they were happy that the Colonel was gone.

For in those moments, the narrators describe how metaphorically even the Buddha at the mantlepiece seemed to be smiling at her. The still image was not smiling, she simply saw a reflection of her emotions projected on the image.

Cheers!

In his article "Is Google Making Us Stupid?," Nicholas Carr used a metaphor to suggest that..
oksian1 [2.3K]

Answer:

C: Reliance on Google search has encouraged people to skim texts incited of reading the them more closely.

Explanation:

The article talks about the writer's experience of having trouble to stay focus. He said this is becoming a common problem in his environment and that it takes much more effort than before to focus on the long pieces of text.

This is due to the high level of web usage - the internet provides us with the convenience of having the information come to us quickly, so we skim through the text and limit our focus.

He gives the example of a few people (like Bruce Friedman or Scott Karp) who lost the ability to read the longer pieces of writings due to over usage of the internet. They say they skim the pieces of writings that have more than a few paragraphs.

Technically, the author states, we read more, but not longer pieces of text, but rather shorter information in for of the text messages and comments.

Therefore the article argues that relying on the internet has made people more adapted to shorter texts and skimming then the throughout reading.

PLEASE HELP ASAP! Write two sentences about "The Secret Garden" explaining the conflict or problem the main character(s) face. A
Goshia [24]
The main character Mary finds that she has a cousin who believes he is physically ill. He acts very rude and inconsiderate because of his long time solitude. Mary helps him out of this attitude and then they decide to fix the garden together, with help from a friend.

Colin's (the cousin) father, Archibald Craven, does not spend much time with Colin, as his deformed spine effects him emotionally. Colin survived this terrible start in life, but Archibald can't stand to look at him. Archibald hates that Colin is all he has left of Lilias, and he also worries that Colin is going to deal with the same physical difficulties with which Archibald struggles. So Archibald has spent most of Colin's life traveling in Europe and leaving Colin in the care of his doctor and housekeeper.

Long story short: Mary and Colin are working in the garden, and little by little Colin is able to walk again, and by the time his father sees him again he is unrecognizable.

I hope this can help you, at least a bit. Use this information to form senteces! I know you can do it :)
