f(x)=x^2-16

To find f^{-1}(x), (the inverse of the function) you need to first replace the f(x) with y...
y=x^2-16
Then switch the x and the y.
x=y^2-16
Solve for y.
x+16=y^2
Take the square root of each side...
\boxed{y=\pm\sqrt{x+16}}

If f(x) = x² -16 , then f⁻¹(x) = ± √ ( x + 16 )

<h3>Further explanation</h3>

Function is a relation which each member of the domain is mapped onto exactly one member of the codomain.

There are many types of functions in mathematics such as :

  • Linear Function → f(x) = ax + b
  • Quadratic Function → f(x) = ax² + bx + c
  • Trigonometric Function → f(x) = sin x or f(x) = cos x or f(x) = tan x
  • Logarithmic function → f(x) = ln x
  • Polynomial function → f(x) = axⁿ + bxⁿ⁻¹ + ...

If function f : x → y , then inverse function f⁻¹ : y → x

Let us now tackle the problem!

f(x) = x^2 - 16

y = x^2 - 16

y + 16 = x^2

x = \pm \sqrt{y + 16}

f^{-1}(x) = \begin{cases} & \sqrt{x + 16} \text{ if } y \geq 0 \\ & -\sqrt{x + 16}\text{ if } y < 0 \end{cases}

What is the slope of the line passing through the points ( −3 , 4 ) and ( 4, −1 )?
ziro4ka [17]
Slope = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1) = (-1 - 4)/(4 - (-3)) = -5/(4 + 3) = -5/7

Show me the steps to solve and the solution y-2&gt;1/2(x-2)
aev [14]
<span>y-2>1/2(x-2) can be expanded as follows:  y - 2 > (1/2)x - 1

Mult. all terms by 2 to remove the fractions:

2y - 4 > x - 2

Add 4 to both sides:   2y > x + 2

Div. both sides by 2:    y > (1/2)x + 1   (answer)</span>

What is the sum of numbers as a product of their GCF 45+60
Eduardwww [97]
Find the prime factorization

45=3*3*5
60=2*2*3*5
GCF=3*5=15

45=3*15
60=4*15

remember
ab+ac=a(b+c) so
45+60=15(3)+15(4)=15(3+4)=15(7)=105
