The role of the children in the society has changed since the colonial times. There are several treaties that secure the rights of children and international organizations like UNICEF. The children cannot be forced to work, abused sexually and have their natural rights like for example to learn. 

Unfortunately, in poorer regions of the world, the rights of the children are still not respected in many cases.

Because the French had just helped the United States win their war against the English Government and the French peasents were VERY poor and the aristocrats were VERY rich and when they decided to add another tax on the poor people they had had enough and the French revolution happened...
