Elaine Hatfield is an American social psycologist who derived a theory on love and relationships.
She defined passionate love as the type of love in which to people experience very intense feelings for each others together with strong mutual attraction. These two people need to be together at every moment, they think about the other person all the time, and feel very upset when they are separated.
It is usually connected to the early stages of a long lasting relationship, that with time evolves towards a companionate type of love.
