A right triangle has legs of 12 ft and 16 ft. Find the longest side of the triangle. I don't get this at all :( help please

The longest side of the triangle is the side with 16 ft because when you subtract 16 and 12 you get an answer of 4 which means that 16 is 4 more feet bigger then the other side.
