You see, the |x| symbols mean that whatever negative term inside will be switched to positive. But they are the lowest priority. so first solve -3 + 9 = 6. The absolute value of 6 is 6.

The answer is C, 6. Because -3+9 is 6, and the absolute value of 6 is 6

How much time does it take light to travel from the moon to the earth, a distance of 384000?
gulaghasi [49]

V = speed of light = 3 x 108 m/s

d = distance = 384000 x 103 m = 3.84 x 108 m

time taken = t = d/V = 3.84 x 108 /(3 x 108 ) = 1.28 sec

1. Of the light bulbs available at a store, 42% are fluorescent, 23% are labeled as long life, and 12% are fluorescent and long
Novosadov [1.4K]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

42% bulbs are fluorescent

23 % bulbs are long life

12% bulbs are fluorescent and long life

(i)Selected Bulb is not Fluorescent =1-P(bulb\ i\ fluorescent)

=1-0.42=0.58

(ii)Selected light bulb is fluorescent  given that it is labelled as long life

P(Fluorescent\ given\ it\ long\ life)=\frac{P(fluorescent\ and\ long\ life)}{P(long\ life)}

P(Fluorescent\ given\ it\ long\ life)=\frac{0.12}{0.23}=0.52

b.Fluorescent and long life events are not independent because if a bulb is fluorescent then it may be long life

A large cheese pizza at Poppy's Pizzeria costs $12.80 plus $1.25 for each topping. The cost of a large
almond37 [142]

Answer:

Part a) 2 toppings

Part b) \$15.30

Step-by-step explanation:

Part a) How many toppings need to be added to  a large cheese pizza from Poppy's Pizzeria and Geo's Pizza in order for the pizzas to cost the same?

Let

x -----> the number of topping

y ----> the total cost of a large cheese pizza

we know that

<em>Poppy's Pizzeria</em>

y=1.25x+12.80 ----> equation A

<em>Geo's Pizza</em>

y=0.65x+14.00 ----> equation B

Equate equation A and equation B

1.25x+12.80=0.65x+14.00

Solve for x

1.25x-0.65x=14.00-12.80

0.60x=1.2

x=2\ toppings

Part b) What  would that cost be?

we know that

For x=2 toppings the cost is the same in both pizzerias

so

substitute the value of x in equation A or equation B

<em>Poppy's Pizzeria</em>

y=1.25(2)+12.80

y=\$15.30

Verify the cost in the other pizzeria (must be the same)

<em>Geo's Pizza</em>

y=0.65(2)+14.00

y=\$15.30 ----> is ok
