Two boats on opposite banks of a river start moving towards each other. They first pass each other 1400 meters from one bank. Th

ey each continue to the opposite bank, immediately turn around and start back to the other bank. When they pass each other a second time, they are 600 meters from the other bank. We assume that each boat travels at a constant speed all along the journey. Find the width of the river?

S1 = speed of boat 1

t1 = time to do 1400 meters (boat 1)

S1*t1 = 1400

S2 = speed of boat 2

1400 + S2*t1 = X

t2 = time to do X + 600 (boat 2)

S1*t2 = X + 600

S2*t2 = 2X - 600

S1 = 1400/t1

S2 = (X-1400)/t1

T = t2/t1

1400*T = X + 600

X*T - 1400*T = 2X - 600

X = 3600 meters

River is 3600 meters wide

Rotate the vector (0,2) 270 degrees counterclockwise about the origin
SashulF [63]

Answer: (2,0)

Explanation:

The vector (0,2) points directly north and the length of this vector is 2 units. It's the distance from (0,0) to (0,2).

When rotating 270 degrees counterclockwise, we'll turn to the left or westward direction (90 degrees so far) then at some point aim directly south (180 degrees so far) and finally ultimately end up pointing directly east (after getting to 270). So that's how we go from (0,2) to (2,0).

If you were to go clockwise, then everything flips and you'll ultimately end up pointing directly west. The length of the vector stays the same the whole time.

Find the slope and y-intercept of the line that is parallel to y = -x - 3 and passes through the point (3, -2)
motikmotik
Use point slope formula y-y1=m(x-x1)
You are told that y=-x+3. This equation is of the form y=mx+b. Where m=-1. m is the slope. And you have a point (x1,y1) that is (3,-2). With all of this in mind, you then plug all of these details into the point slope formula y-y1=m(x-x1)

In point slope form, you have the following:

y-(-2)=-1(x-3).

To turn this into slope intercept form, simplify y-(-2) to get y+2 and distribute in the -1 to get:

y+2=-x+3

Subtract 2 from both sides to get

y=-x+1

In slope intercept form, the answer is
y=-x+1 and in point slope form, the answer is y+2=-x+3

Hope this helps!!!
