When does lactic acid fermentation take place in human cells?

Biology

Lactic acid fermentation occurs in humans mostly during vigorous  activity or exercise.

Fermentation is the process of producing ATP in the absence of oxygen through glycolysis alone. Lactic acid fermentation converts  the 3-carbon pyruvate to the 3-carbon lactic acid and regenerates NAD+ in the process, allowing glycolysis  to continue to make ATP in low oxygen conditions.

Since there is a limited supply of of NAD+, available in  any given cell, this electron acceptor must be regenerated to allow ATP production to continue.

To achieve this, NADH donates its extra electrons to the pyruvate molecules, regenerating NAD+ .  When pyruvate accepts these electrons, it is reduced and becomes lactic acid.

How does meiosis increase genetic variability
igor_vitrenko [27]
Meiosis increases genetic variability mainly by a process known as crossing over or synapsis during prophase I. During this process, homologous chromosomes link up to form tetrads that exchange DNA at locations known as chiasma in order to form genetically different chromosomes.

Anastaziya [24]

Answer:

Keystone species

Explanation:

A keystone species is the one that affects the structure and function of the community irrespective of its small population size. The keystone species is not the most abundant species of the community but occupies an ecological niche that regulates and maintains the structure and function of the rest of the community.

Elephants serve in the dispersal of seeds, make new habitats for various plant species by crushing the woody plants with their feet. Since elephants are shown to regulate the species richness by making space for new species and seed dispersal, they are the keystone species.

What unit of measurement pertains to the number of microscopic molecules in a sample?
sleet_krkn [62]

Answer:

The 'Mole'

Explanation:

In the International Systems of Units i.e. SI, mole is the unit for the measurement of the amount of substances, or in simple terms the number of microscopic molecules or particles in a given sample is measured in mole. It is denoted by the symbol 'mol'.

If in a given sample there are 1 mole particles or molecule then it means that the total number of particles or molecules in that sample is equal to the Avogadro's number and this number has a value of 6.22\times 10^2^3. Mole is used as a measurement unit for various types of microscopic particles like atoms, molecules, ions electrons.
