analyze similarities and differences in how the byzantine empire and the islamic caliphates use religion to govern before 1450. this is for ap world. i need either a similarity or a differences, i already have a similarity and difference, i just need one more. an explanation of examples would be great.

One similarity was that religious leaders were also political leaders (to various degrees) in both entities. This meant that their power would not be as challenged by the citizens (after all, their leaders were god-sent, and opposing them could lead to God's wrath).
