Of all the numbers whose difference is 36, find the two that have the minimum product

Mathematics

Answer:

54,18

Step-by-step explanation:

Let one of the numbers be x. The other number be represented as 36-x

(x-(36-x ) = 36

open brackets

x - 36 + x  =  36

x + x = 36+ 36 = 72

2x = 72

x = 72/2 = 36

x =  36

The product can then be represented as y = x(36-x) or y=36x-x²

 The maximum or minimum is always on the axis of symmetry which has the formula x=-b/2a.

In our case, the axis of symmetry is -36/-2, so x=18.

If one number is 18 and the 2 numbers differentiate by 36, the other number is 18 + 36 = 54

So the 2 numbers are 18 and 54 and the minimum product is 972

Find the equation of the circle whose center and radius are given. center ( 7, -3), radius = √7
arsen [322]

Answer & Step-by-step explanation:

The equation of a circle is...

(x-x1)^2+(y-y1)^2=r^2

So all we have to do is plug in the numbers we are given.

So, the equation of the circle is (x - 7)² + (y + 3)² = √7²

Use the trapezoid rule to estimate the area under the graph of y = x2 + 2 for values of x from 0 to 3.
dimulka [17.4K]
So basically you form little trapaziods to fin =d the area. It's been a long time since I took calculus so Imma have to improvise

Area or trapaziod = area of rectangle + area of triangle so you get
2*1+(3-2)*1/2+3*1+(6-3)*1/2+6*1+(11-6)*1/2=15.5

Two sides of an acute triangle measure 5 inches and 8 inches. The longest side is unknown.
Akimi4 [234]

Answer:   9 inches

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x be the longest side of the acute triangle having other sides 5 inches and 8 inches,

Since, for the acute triangle,

(\text{longest side})^2< \text{ sum of the square of the other sides}

\implies x^2 < 5^2 + 8^2

\implies x^2< 25 + 64

\implies x^2 < 89

\implies x < 9.43398113\approx 9.434

Thus, the largest value of x ( whole number ) is 9.

Elimination method - -4x = 4y<br> 4x - 8y = 12
nika2105 [10]

Answer: (4,-4)

y=-4, x=4

Step-by-step explanation:

-4x=4y

4x-8y=12

-8y=-4x+12  Now I can substitute -4x for 4y

-8y=4y+12

-2y=y+12

-3y=12

y=-4

-4x=4y

-4x=4(-4)

x=4
