Answer:

Both expansionism and imperialism are similar because they seek control over foreign nations, the difference is the method they use to obtain this. Expansionism centers on the economic influence a poewerful nation exerts and Imperialism focuses on dominance by force.

Explanation:

The term imperialism refers to the political doctrines that establish a relationship between nations in terms of superiority and submission. In other words, one of them is dominated and another exercises authority in military, economic and / or cultural matters. This imposes the agenda that is mostly favorable to the dominant. The Imperial domination of European nations occured through the settlement of the colonized territory in America and Africa, the economic exploitation of the resources, such as gold digging, and military presence like it occured in Africa. And it also happened through the subordination of the culture and traditions.

In the case of American expansionism, it is not based on the capture of the neighboring territory, but on its economic submission to use it as a market for the consumption of its own goods, instead of those that the country produces. This is called economic expansionism. It is nourished by the growing demand for consumer goods or capital within the State that seeks to expand, and which considers the option of snatching it from its neighboring countries or colonizing some other territory to obtain them viable.
