A recessive allele is not expressed in the presence of dominant allele. This makes both homozygous dominant and heterozygous dominant genotype to exhibit the dominant phenotype. Though the recessive allele is present in the heterozygous dominant genotype, it is not expressed. Example: Both TT and Tt genotype exhibit "tall" phenotype.

The phenotype for a polygenic trait is determined by the total number of dominant alleles of the genes controlling the trait. Genotype for a polygenic trait can not be determined by phenotype alone. Example: For a polygenic trait controlled by A, B and C genes, both Aabbcc and aaBbcc genotype will give the same phenotype.
