Answer:

The equation of the line of best fit is y = x + 2

Step-by-step explanation:

<em>To find the equation of the line of best fit chose two points when the line passing through them the number of points over it equals the number of point below it</em>

  • The form of the equation is y = m x + b, where m is the slope of the line and b is the y-intercept (y at x = 0)
  • The formula of the slope is m=\frac{y_{2}-y_{1}}{x_{2}-x_{1}}

From the attached graph the points (37 , 39) and (47 , 49) are the best choice to make the equation of the line of best fit

∵ The line passes through points (37 , 39) and (47 , 49)

∴ x_{1} = 37 and x_{2} = 47

∴ y_{1} = 39 and y_{2} = 49

- Substitute them in the formula of the slope

∵ m=\frac{49-39}{47-37}=\frac{10}{10}

∴ m = 1

- Substitute the value of m in the form of the equation

∴ y = (1) x + b

∴ y = x + b

- To find b substitute x and y in the equation by the coordinates

    of one of the two points above

∵ x = 37 and y = 39

∴ 39 = 37 + b

- Subtract 37 from both sides

∴ 2 = b

∴ y = x + 2

The equation of the line of best fit is y = x + 2

Answer:

       -(-5) ± √13             5 ± √13

x = ----------------------- = ---------------

              2(3)                       6

Step-by-step explanation:

This is a quadratic equation, with coefficients 3, -5 and 1.

The discriminant, b² - 4ac, turns out to be (-5)² - 4(3)(1), or 25 - 12  =  13

Thus, the roots are:

       -(-5) ± √13             5 ± √13

x = ----------------------- = ---------------

              2(3)                       6

What is the y intercept of (-6, -5) when the slope is -2/3?
Alecsey [184]
X must be increased by 6 to get its value to be 0. Then the corresponding change in y will be (-2/3)*6 = -4. That value added to -5 makes it -9.

The y-intercept will be -9.

Find the value of x and the value of y.

Answer:

C.

Step-by-step explanation:

x is bisecting the baseline (cutting it in 2 halves of 6).

the third angle in the main overall triangle is 60 degrees.

remember, all angles in a triangle always add up to 180 degrees.

so, 180 - 60 - 60 = 60.

that means that all 3 angles are of equal size (60). and that means that all 3 sides must have the same length.

=> y = 12

and now using Pythagoras to calculate the height (x) of the triangle :

y² = x² + 6² (remember, this side is only half the baseline)

12² = x² + 6²

144 = x² + 36

x² = 108

x = sqrt(108) = sqrt(36×3) = 6×sqrt(3)
