Answer:

a) There are 126 different ways are there to select four of the nine computers to be set up.

b) 31.75% probability that exactly three of the selected computers are desktops.

c) 35.71% probability that at least three desktops are selected.

Step-by-step explanation:

A probability is the number of desired outcomes divided by the number of total outcomes.

In this problem, there are no replacements. Which means that after one of the 9 computers is selected, there will be 8 computers.

Also, the order that the computers are selected is not important. For example, desktop A and desktop B is the same outcome as desktop B and desktop A.

These are the two reasons why the combinations formula is important to solve this problem.

Combinations formula:

C_{n,x} is the number of different combinations of x objects from a set of n elements, given by the following formula.

C_{n,x} = \frac{n!}{x!(n-x)!}

(a) How many different ways are there to select four of the nine computers to be set up?

Four computers are selected from a set of 9.

So

T = C_{9,4} = \frac{9!}{4!(9-4)!} = 126

There are 126 different ways are there to select four of the nine computers to be set up.

(b) What is the probability that exactly three of the selected computers are desktops?

Desired outcomes:

3 desktops, from a set of 5

One laptop, from a set of 4.

So

D = C_{5,3}*C_{4,1} = 40

Total outcomes:

From a), 126

Probability:

P = \frac{40}{126} = 0.3175

31.75% probability that exactly three of the selected computers are desktops.

(c) What is the probability that at least three desktops are selected?

Three or four

Three:

P = \frac{40}{126}

Four:

Desired outcomes:

4 desktops, from a set of 5

Zero laptop, from a set of 4.

D = C_{5,4}*C_{4,0} = 5

P = \frac{5}{126}

Total(three or four) probability:

P = \frac{40}{126} + \frac{5}{126} = \frac{45}{126} = 0.3571

35.71% probability that at least three desktops are selected.

Well, in order to get that you had to do distributive property, distributive property is when you get the outside number next to the parenthesis and multiply it by the numbers or variable inside the parenthesis one by one. So if she was trying to explain how you got the answer you got then you would say you used the distributive property. Now the (-4x)2 would look like (-4x)(-4x) nad the (9)2 will look like (9)(9) that is why it results in 16x2+81. When you square something it means that you multiply the first number or variable or both times the same. That is why you got that answer. Now I am going to make clear that you r(-4x) changed from a negative to a postive because when you multiply a negative times a negative(or divide also) it results in a positve.

Hope I explained it enough

4c^2-8c-1=0 complete the square round to nearest hundredth
olga55 [171]
Move constant to other side
add 1
4c^2-8c=1
divide by 4 to make leading coeficient 1
c^2-2c=1/4
take 1/2 of linear coeficient and square it
-2/2=-1, (-1)^2=1
add that to both sides
c^2-2c+1=1/4+1
factor perfect squaer and add
(c-1)^2=5/4
square root both sides
c-1=+/-(√5)/2
add 1
c=1+/-(√5)/2

c=2.12 or -0.12

Answer:

B. 45

Step-by-step explanation:

do 12×12 which is 144 then Davide it by 2 because it's a triangle then do 9×3 which is 27 then subtract that from 72 and you get 45.

Angle of the Sun A 96-ft tree casts a shadow that is 120 ft long. What is the angle of elevation of the sun
scoray [572]

Answer:

The angle of elevation of the sun is 39⁰

Step-by-step explanation:

Given;

height of the tree, h = 96 ft

length of the shadow, L = 120 ft

                                                   |

                                                   | 96ft

                                                   |

                                                   |

       θ------------------------------------

                    120ft

Completing this triangle to cut across the top of the tree gives you a right angled triangle with θ as the angle of elevation of the sun.

Apply trig-ratio to determine the angle of elevation of the sun;

tanθ = opposite side / adjacent side

tanθ = 96 / 120

tanθ = 0.8

θ = tan⁻¹(0.8)

θ = 38.7⁰

θ = 39⁰

Therefore, the angle of elevation of the sun is 39⁰
