All of this change started around the year 1803, when Robert Thorne of England came up with  a major category  of design called fat faces. These kind of design was about roman faces whose contrast and weight were made bigger by expanding the thickness of the heavy strokes. Later the Egyptian Faces came and after them the ones called sans-serif
