Calculate the pOH of a 0.200 M (C2H5)3 aqueous solution given Kb= 5.2 x 10^-4

The dissociation of (C2H5 )3 N takes place as follows:

(C2H5 )3 N --> (C2H5)2N- + C2H5 +

0.2 – x x x

Whereas, dissociation of ethanol is follows:

C2H5 OH --> C2H5 + + OH-

Thus, the concentration of C2H5 + is equivalent to OH-

Kb = [(C2H5)2N- ] [C2H5 + ] / [(C2H5 )3 N ]

5.2 * 10-4 = x^2 / 0.2

x = [OH- ] = 5.01 * 10^-2 M

The concentration of hydroxyl ion is 5.01 * 10^-2 M

P (OH) = - log [OH- ]

= - log [5.01 * 10^-2 ]

= 1.31

The Poh is 1.31

How does collision theory relate temperature to the rate of a reaction?
nadya68 [22]

Answer:

Explanation:

The collision theory explains why reactions occur between atoms, ions, and molecules. With the increase in temperature, there is an increase in the number of collisions. Increasing the concentration of a reactant increases the frequency of collisions between reactants and will, therefore, increase the reaction rate.

Describe and explain one real-life and/or recent example of how scientific knowledge had to change or adapt in the face of new d
AfilCa [17]

Answer: Science is a particular way of knowing about the world. In science, explanations are restricted to those that can be inferred from confirmable data—the results obtained through observations and experiments that can be substantiated by other scientists. Anything that can be observed or measured is amenable to scientific investigation. Explanations that cannot be based on empirical evidence are not a part of science.

H2 + O2 -&gt; 2H2O <br> balanced or unbalanced pls help
Sidana [21]

Answer:

Unbalanced

Explanation:

The reaction equation is given as:

             H₂  +  O₂  →   2H₂O

The given reaction flouts the law of conservation of mass and it is not balanced. To know a reaction that is balanced, the number of atoms on both sides of the expression must be the same;

                                             Number of moles

                         Reactants                                             Products

Hydrogen                2                                                            4

Oxygen                   2                                                            2

We see that the hydrogen atoms are not balanced.
