Combine like terms:
subtract x from both sides to get
2x+5=14
subtract 5
2x=9
isolate x:
divide 2 from both sides to isolate x
x=9/2
that's your final answer. unless your teacher wants you to put it in decimal form in which all you do is divide 9÷2.

What is the total amount of 2/5+5/3+9/3 and the lowest common denominator?
gregori [183]

The lowest common denominator is lcm(5, 3), which is 15.

The sum of 2/5 + 5/3 + 9/3 is 6/15 + 25/15 + 45/15, which is 76/15 or 5\frac{1}{15}.

Solve for x. 7(x - 3) 3(4 - x) = -8 x = 1/4 x = 25/10 x = -16/19 x = -41/10
Ann [662]
7(x - 3) + 3(4 - x) = -8
7x - 21 + 12 - 3x = -8
7x - 3x = -8 + 21 - 12
4x = 1
x = 1/4

Factor this expression completely.
36y2 - 1
shtirl [24]

Answer:

(6y - 1)(6y + 1)

Step-by-step explanation:

To factorize completely, we may adopt the difference of 2 squares approach. The theory states that difference of two square is the product of the difference of the number and the sum of the numbers.

Such that

a² - b² = (a - b) (a + b)

Hence 36y² - 1

= 6²y² - 1²

= (6y)² - 1²

= (6y - 1)(6y + 1)

The expression to find the number of notebooks James bought would be written as:

Number of notebooks = total spent / cost per item

Number of notebooks = (2y^2 + 6) / (y^2 − 1)
