Answer:

Number of adult goats = 5

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the numbers of adult rabbits = R

and numbers of child rabbits = r

Let the numbers of adult goats are = G

and numbers of child goats = g

Now we will form the equations as per statements given in the question.

R + r + G + g = 40 -------(1)

R = 2G

g = 3G

R = r ⇒ r = 2G

Now we put these values in the equation 1.

2G + 2G + G + 3G = 40

8G = 40

G = 5

therefore there are 5 adult goats in the petting zoo.

An artificial lake is in the shape of a rectangle and has an area of 9/20 square mile. The width of the lake is 1/5 the length o
Zina [86]
X=width of the lake
y=length of the lake.
we set out this system of equiations
x*y=9/20
x=y/5
we solve by sustitution method
(y/5)*y=9/20
y²/5=9/20
y²=(5*9)/ 20
y²=2.25
y=√2.25=1.5

x=y/5
x=1.5/5=0.3

Solution:
width of the lake=0.3 miles
lenght of the lake=1.5 miles

Nick is now seven times as old as Harry. In 6 years, Nick will be five times as old as Harry. How old will Harry be in 6 years?
Deffense [45]

Answer:

7x+6 = 5(x+6)

Step-by-step explanation:

x represents Harry's age now, so 7x represents Nick's age now. (Nick is 7 times as old as Harry.)

In 6 years, Harry's age will be x+6.

In 6 years, Nick's age will be 7x+6, which is 5 times Harry's age at that time, 5(x+6). Hence an appropriate equation is ...

... 7x+6 = 5(x+6)

_____

Please note that finding the value of x does not give the answer to the question. We are asked for Harry's age in 6 years, so the answer is x+6 (=18).
