A plant that manufactures metal plates has a quality control team to check that the plates are the right size. A rectangular pla

te with dimensions 5 cm by 3 cm must have length within 0.25 cm of 5 cm. Write and solve an absolute value inequality to find the minimum and maximum area of the plates. (Round to the nearest hundredth)

Answer:

maximum: x ≤ 1.25 cm²

Step-by-step explanation:

We are told that the measurements have to be within 0.25 cm and 5 cm length. If those are the length measurements, let's find the area.

0.25 x 5 = 1.25

Within means that it cannot be greater than that number. So that means the maximum has to be 1.25 cm².

I'm not sure how you would find the minimum, though, in this problem, because it says the original size of the plate is 5cm x 3cm, but the company wants it to be no more than 1.25 cm². So I'm not really sure how you would be able to find the minimum given the things in the problem. I am just going to ASSUME that the minimum would be x\geq 0.00, but again I think that might be wrong since it says this company wants exactly right measurements.

Sorry I can't help with that...

but I hope this helped. :)
