we know that

in the first flowerbeds you have 4 tulips and 3 geraniums

so

the ratio for tulips to geraniums is

4/3

In the second flowerbed you have 6 geraniums

Part 1) How many tulips should there be in the second flowerbed to have the same ratio of tulips and geraniums as the first flowerbed?

let

x--------> tulips in the second flowerbed

by proportion

4/3=x/6-------> 6*4=3*x------> x=24/3------> x=8 tulips

the answer part 1) is

8 tulips

Part 2) How many total geranium flowers are used in these two flowerbeds?

total geranium flowers is equal to

geranium flowers flowerbeds 1+geranium flowers flowerbeds 2

so

total geranium flowers=3+6------> 9 geranium flowers

the answer Part 2) is

9 geranium flowers

Part 3) How many total tulip flowers are to be used in these two flowerbeds?

total tulip flowers is equal to

tulip flowers flowerbeds 1+tulip flowers flowerbeds 2

so

total tulip flowers=4+8------> 12 tulip flowers

the answer Part 3) is

12 tulip flowers

Part 4) How many of each do we have left to use in the remaining flowerbed?
