There is NOTHING your parents can do to prevent you from making mistakes and running into road blocks once in a while. Personally, my parents try to teach me the lessons they had to learn for themselves. However, just because your parents made some wrong decisions or did things they shouldn't have, doesn't mean that you will or won't make the same mistakes. It doesn't matter how often they bring up their mistaken situations of parental struggle, you very well could make the same mistakes. It's a matter of them (and you) accepting that you can't control everything, no matter how many lectures and acts of precaution you take. One of the most important parts about transitioning from childhood to adulthood is being able to learn from your own mistakes and taking responsibility for your own actions.
