<span>Soon after independence, the states drafted and ratified the Articles of Confederation. One of the big problems with this document is that it required a 100% agreement on the part of the colonies to ratify or approve any sort of legislation. This led to a number of disagreements over economics and how to handle laws at the beginning of the nation, with very little being done overall.</span>
