165\15= number of tubs

165 divided by 15 equals the amount of the tubs that he sold.

(I assume the two different name things, isaac&dominic, is a mistake since there isnt any information for Dominic)

Solve each quadratic equation. Show your work 15. x2 + 3x = 10
OLEGan [10]
X² + 3x = 10

Convert to standard form.
x² + 3x - 10 = 0

factor x² = x * x
factor -10 = 5 * -2

(x + 5) (x - 2) = 0
x(x -2) + 5(x-2) = 0
x² - 2x + 5x - 10 = 0
x² + 3x - 10 = 0

x + 5 = 0               x² + 3x = 10
x = -5               -5² + 3(-5) = 10
                              25 - 15 = 10
                                     10 = 10

x - 2 = 0            x² + 3x = 10
x = 2               2² + 3(2) = 10
                             4 + 6 = 10
                                 10 = 10

Simon says "five time my age 4 years ago is the same as three time my age in 2 years" how old is simon
omeli [17]

Simon is 13 years old

Let x be Simon's age

Thus 4 years ago his age was (x - 4) and 2 years from now his age is (x + 2)

Hence 5(x - 4) = 3(x + 2)

distributing both sides gives

5x-20 = 3x + 6

subtract 3x from both sides of the equation

5x - 3x - 20 = 6

2x - 20 = 6

add 20 to both sides

2x = 6 + 20 = 26

divide both sides by 2

x = \frac{26}{2} = 13

Simon is 13 years old

Why will the value of y for the function y equals 5x + 1 always be greater than that of y equals 4x + 1 with X greater than 1?
klemol [59]
You mean
the linear equations, 5x-y+1=0,4x-y+1=0
the slopes are 5 and 4 respectively.
it is clear that slope of first equation is greater that is it has a steeper graph therefore it Will always be greater than the other for x > 1
the same can be done by calculus; differentiation.

note y=5x+1 is always greater than y=4x+1 for all x>1
