Prove Euler's identity using Euler's formula.<br> e^ix = cos x + i sin x
Korolek [52]

First list all the terms out.

e^ix = 1 + ix/1! + (ix)^2/2! + (ix)^3/3! ...

Then, we can expand them.

e^ix = 1 + ix/1! + i^2x^2/2! + i^3x^3/3!...

Then, we can use the rules of raising i to a power.

e^ix = 1 + ix - x^2/2! - ix^3/3!...

Then, we can sort all the real and imaginary terms.

e^ix = (1 - x^2/2!...) + i(x - x^3/3!...)

We can simplify this.

e^ix = cos x + i sin x

This is Euler's Formula.

What happens if we put in pi?

x = pi

e^i*pi = cos(pi) + i sin(pi)

cos(pi) = -1

i sin(pi) = 0

e^i*pi = -1 OR e^i*pi + 1 = 0

That is Euler's identity.

A competition to catch the most rainbow trout on Lake Rainbow pitched the men against the ladies. 16 men and 12 women participat
Valentin [98]

The probability that a participant successfully catches 3 rainbow trout, given that the participant was a woman is 0.0042.

P(woman) = 12/28

= 3/7

P(men) = 16/28

= 4/7

P(3 trouts) = P(3 trout | women)*P(woman) + P(3 trout | men)*P(man)

= P(3 trout | women)*(3/7) + (15C3 * (0.09^3)*(1-0.09)^(15*3))*(4/7)

= P(3 trout | women)*(3/7) + (0.00476)*(4/7)

P(woman | 3 trout) = P(3 trout | women)*P(woman) / P(3 trouts)

{P(3 trout | women) = p}

p*(3/7) / (p*(3/7) + (0.00476)*(4/7)) = 0.40

p*(3/7)/0.40 = (p*(3/7) + (0.00476)*(4/7))

p*((3/7)/0.40 - (3/7)) = (0.00476)*(4/7)

p = [(0.00476)*(4/7)] / [((3/7)/0.40 - (3/7))]

= 0.0042
