Question:

Jenny is making tie-dyed shirts for her class with her school colors, blue and yellow. She used a total of 8 ounces of fabric paint. The amount of blue paint is 3 times the amount of yellow paint. Make a diagram to show the ratio of blue paint to yellow paint

Answer:

The ratio of blue paint to yellow paint is 3 : 1

Solution:

Let "x" be the amount of blue paint in ounces

Let "y" be the amount of yellow paint in ounces

She used a total of 8 ounces of fabric paint

Therefore,

x + y = 8 -------- eqn 1

The amount of blue paint is 3 times the amount of yellow paint

Amount of blue paint = 3 times the amount of yellow paint

x = 3y ------- eqn 2

Substitute eqn 2 in eqn 1

3y + y = 8

4y = 8

Divide both sides by 4

y = 2

Substitute y = 2 in eqn 2

x = 3(2)

x = 6

Therefore , the amount of blue paint is 6 ounces and the amount of yellow paint is 2 ounces

Find the ratio

To find out the ratio of blue paint to yellow paint, divide the amount of blue paint by the amount of yellow paint

\frac{x}{y} = \frac{6}{2} = \frac{3}{1}

Which means, of every 4 parts of paint, three parts are blue and one part is yellow

The diagram is attached below

Divide £12 between mick and sharon in the ratio 2:4
antiseptic1488 [7]

Answer:mick share is £4 while Sharon share is £8

Step-by-step explanation:

Money to be shared=£12

Mick : sharon=2:4

Sum of ratio=2+4=6

Mick share=2/6 x 12

Mick share=(2x12)/6

Mick share=24/6

Mick share=4

Sharon share=4/6 x 12

Sharon share=(4x12)/6

Sharon share=48/6

Sharon share=48/6

Sharon share=8

Select the correct answer from each drop-down menu.
kifflom [539]

Answer:

 1. 0.83
 2. 0.9
 3. steeper than
 4. slower than

Step-by-step explanation:

Letting t=1 in Ted's equation, we find that he climbs 5/6 stairs in 1 second. As a decimal, 5/6 ≈ 0.83.

Michael climbs 9 stairs in 10 seconds so his rate is ...

... (9 stairs)/(10 seconds) = (9/10) stairs/second = 0.9 stairs/second

Michael's graph will be a line with a slope of 0.9; Ted's graph will be a line with a slope of about 0.83, so the line on Michael's graph is steeper.

Ted climbs fewer stairs per second, so his rate is slower than Michael's.

_____

Comment on the problem

You're being asked to compare two different rates that are associated with two different people. First the comparison is one way, then it is the other way. This can be confusing. It might be helpful to draw and label a simple chart to help you keep it straight. (The attachment is such a chart scribbled on a bit of scratch paper. It is sufficient for the purpose.)

Britany has a bag with 2 mint sticks, 4 jelly treats, and 14 fruit tart chews. If she eats one piece every 9 minutes, what is th
zheka24 [161]
That "9 minutes" doesn't affect the outcome!

How many pieces of candy are in the bag at the beginning? How many of those are "fruit tart chews?" Write a fraction involving these 2 counts. Remember that Britany immediately eats what she draws from the bag, so the 2nd time around, there are only 19 pieces, not 20. What is the prob. that she will pick a jelly treat on her second draw?
Because these experiments are independent, you can find the joint probability by multiplying the 2 probabilities together. Please show your work.

What Is the Answer To number 1 ?
DochEvi [55]

Answer: 4 apples for $3.64

Step-by-step explanation:

The best buy is going to be the one that costs the least. To figure this out, you divide the number of apples by the price. (do not round)

4/3.64=1.09

9/8.01=1.23

14/12.43=1.12

24/21.12=1.13

As you can see, the 4 apples for $3.64 is the better choice since the number is the least.
