Answer:

The first diffraction maximum fringe will be at approximately 2.7 meters from the central maximum.

Explanation:

We can describe single slit diffraction phenomenon with the equation:

a\sin\theta=m\lambda (1)

with θ the angular position of the minimum of order m respect the central maximum, a the slit width and λ the wavelength of the incident light. Because the distances between the first minima and the central maximum (y_{m}) are small compared to the distance between the screen and the slit (x), we can approximate \sin\theta\approx\tan\theta=\frac{y}{x}, using this on (1):

a\frac{y_{m}}{x}=m\lambda

solving for y

y_{m}= \frac{mx\lambda}{a}

Note that y_{m}is the distance between a minimum and the central maximum but we need the position of a maximum not a minimum, here we can use the fact that a maximum is approximately between two minima, so the first diffraction maximum fringe is between the minima of order 1 and 2, so we should find y_{1}, y_{2} add them and divide by two:

y_{1}= \frac{(1)(10.0m)(550\times10^{-9}\,m)}{3.00\times10^{-6}\,m}

y_{1}= 1.8 m

y_{2}= \frac{(2)(10.0m)(550\times10^{-9}\,m)}{3.00\times10^{-6}\,m}

y_{1}= 3.6 m

maximum = \frac{1.8+3.6}{2}=2.7m

The fine horizontal scratches etched onto a bullet after it has been fired are called?
GalinKa [24]

The fine horizontal scratches etched onto a bullet after it has been fired are called Striations.

<h3>What is Striations?</h3>
  • Striations are the minute differences in the curve of the bullet's surface. The bullet and the gun barrel are the harder and softer materials, respectively, in firearms evidence.
  • The striations left on the fired bullet are used as a comparison by firearm examiners.
  • When a gun is discharged, the bullet blasts down the barrel where it strikes ridges and grooves, spinning and improving shot accuracy.
  • These ridges cause striations in the bullet's soft metal by digging into it.
  • An examiner analyses these distinctive markings to verify whether a given bullet was shot from a specific firearm.
  • A barrel will produce individual markings in addition to a bullet's land and groove impressions as the projectile passes through.

A person running has a momentum of 720 kg m/s and is traveling at a velocity of 5 m/s. What is his mass?
allsm [11]

Explanation:

Momentum is mass times velocity.

p = mv

720 kg m/s = m (5 m/s)

m = 144 kg

6. An earthquake releases two types of traveling seismic waves, called transverse and longitudinal waves. The average speed of t
zubka84 [21]

Answer:

The distance away the center of the earthquake is 1083.24 km.

Explanation:

Given that,

Speed of transverse wave = 9.1\ km/s

Speed of longitudinal wave = 5.7 km/s

Time = 71 sec

We need to calculate the distance of transverse wave

Using formula of distance

d=v\times t

d=9.1\times t....(I)

The distance of longitudinal wave

d=5.7\times (t+71)....(II)

From the first equation

t=\dfrac{d}{9.1}

Put the value of t in equation (II)

d =5.7\times(\dfrac{d}{9.1}+71)

\dfrac{9.1d-5.7d}{9.1}=71\times5.7

d0.3736=404.7

d =1083.24\ km

Hence, The distance away the center of the earthquake is 1083.24 km.

A distorted 1kHz sine wave is represented by the equation: LaTeX: v(t) = 5sin(2 \pi 1000t) + 0.05sin(2 \pi 3000t)v ( t ) = 5 s i
vovikov84 [41]

Answer:

As given in the problem statement

frequency=1 KHz=1*10^3 Hz

V(t) is represented as

v(t) = 5sin(2 \pi 1000t) + 0.05sin(2 \pi 3000t)

v ( t ) = 5 s i n ( 2 π 1000 t ) + 0.05 s i n ( 2 π 3000 t )

Total harmonic distortion will be 234 Pi
