This was very different from Ellis Island, where the regulation was much more relaxed, and often lasted only hours.

At the time the government was the king and there was no First Amendment. The jury found him not guilty because they saw this for what it was. This is a good example of the colonists believing the government should have limited power, and led directly to the First Amendment 40 years later
