Although Horace was born 26 weeks after conception, he was able to survive and become a happy and healthy 2-year old boy because he was able to reach the age of viability. The age of viability is reached during week 21-22 of the pregnancy. In this stage, the lungs gain some ability to breathe air. Thus, survival outside the womb may be possible for some babies.

A human cell has 5 glucose molecules, 2 pyruvate molecules and 1 acetyl-CoA. If oxygen is not available, how many ATP would be g
suter [353]
Since oxygen is required in the electron transport chain the cell is unable to break down glucose past pyruvate. This means that both pyruvates and acetyl-CoA are unable to help produce further ATP. The cell is still able to break down the 5 glucose molecules using glycolysis however instead of producing pyruvate its final product is lactic acid. Since each glucose is can create 4 ATP (net 2 ATP) five glucose molecules would produce 20ATP net (10ATP).

What is cell surface to volume ratio and why is it important in cell functioning? Can it explain why cells are so small?
MrMuchimi
The main reason surface area to volume ratio is important to a cell is because the surface area to volume ratio determines the rate at which cells uptake nutrients, liquids or gases. For instance, I have two organisms, A and B. Organism A has a surface area to volume ratio of 6:1, whereas organism B has a surface area to volume ratio of 3:1. As organism A has a greater surface area to volume ratio, it means that organism A will be able to take up nutrients, liquids or gases via diffusion or osmosis at a greater rate than organism B, as it has more surface with which to exchange nutrients, liquids or gases.
