Historically, an important strategy for disrupting the adhesion of integrins to their ligands is by using a synthetic peptide th

at mimics the binding site on the ECM molecule to which the integrin attaches. In the case of fibronectin, the amino acid sequence is arginine-glycine-aspartate (when written using the single letter designation for each amino acid, this sequence becomes RGD). Explain why addition of such synthetic peptides would disrupt binding of cells to their normal substratum.

Answer:

Upon binding of integrins with such synthetic peptides, disrupts the receptors, and make them unavailable to bind with fibronectin or laminin.

It would impact in inhibition of binding of cells to extracellular matrix (ECM). It is an important strategy that disrupts the adhesion of integrins and ligands. It can have significant role in tumor invasion and metastasis.

Part A: A= cytoplasm, B= cell wall and C= cell membrane.

In Part B under this condition, we expected to see the phenomenon called plasmolysis.

How, explain your answer briefly?

Eukaryotic cells consist on a cytoplasm (internal medium) which contains different organelles. Covering the cytoplasm we found a first thin layer called cell membrane and an external rigid layer called the cell wall.

When a cell is subjected to a media with a salt concentration higher than salt concentration inside the cell (hypertonic media), water inside the vacuole (an organelle that constitutes almost 90 % of cell volume and contains water) tends to move out of the cell in response to the concentration gradient.

This phenomenon is called plasmolysis and is possible because of the permeability characteristics of cell membrane and cell wall.

Thus, this could be the answer.

Which statement best describes the current scientific view of birds?A) a group of feathered, ectothermic lizards that lack teeth
zmey [24]

Answer:

D) a group of feathered, endothermic dinosaurs

Explanation:

Birds are a group of endothermic dinosaurs, characterized by feathers, epidermal structures that form plumage. Warm-blooded animal species (endothermic) maintain the body temperature higher than their environment.

Answer A is false because although birds are feathered and lack teeth, they are NOT ectothermic lizards.

Answer B is false because although birds lay amniotiv eggs, birds are a different taxonomic group than mammals, and not all birds fly.

Answer C is false because although some reptiles are closely related to birds, the current scientific consensus is that birds are a group of dinosaurs. Also, not all birds fly, and although they have lost the teeth, they have NOT lost the amniotic egg.
