If you want to participate in a physical sport, the statement that best describes this process would be to become physically fit, develop strategies, learn techniques for improving. 

You have to be prepared heavily if you want to compete in a physical sport, such as football, basketball, soccer, etc. and also have to be very good at it. Nobody would want you on your team if you are a real bad player (obviously), or if you are out of shape and unable to play properly, so you need to be physically, emotionally, and mentally balanced in your goals.
